PORTUGAL JOURNEY´S
Levada Trails, Madeira
The levada was a man-made channel, running down an incline, to carry water from the mountain highs to the land below. There are more than 200 levadas across the island of Madeira, many with stone paths running adjacent, making them a perfect pathway for hiking and exploring the amazing scenery.
Serra da Estrela Mountains
This area consists of old glacial valleys where you can explore the landscape on marked trails for hikers at all levels. Estrela is home to the highest mountains of the mainland of the country. Estrela is home to many water springs, waterfalls and rivers and is also the only place in Portugal to have snow and a ski area.
Seven Hanging Valleys, The Algarve
On the golden, Algarve coastline lies the unique Seven Hanging Valleys Trail. Here you will explore rugged cliffs, hidden coves and golden sands. You will discover the breathtaking beauty of Portugal’s southern shores, such as the rock layers changing colour throughout the day, as the sunlight paints them in shades ranging from bright orange to darkened copper.
