PORTUGAL´S TEXTILES

BUREL FACTORY
Production of the region´s traditional felted-wool fabric, burel, has been revived in the Serra da Estrela village of Manteigas. Woven on 19th century looms, the cloth is made into blankets, bedspreads and more and sold in their local shop and as far as Lisbon, Porto and London.

BORDAL
Created on the Portuguese island of Madeira since 1962, Bordal offers customers more than 40,000 patterns which can be stitched into linen tablecloths, baby clothes, bedding and more. The atelier is open to visitors, to showcase their dedicated work. They even collaborated with Chanel in 2014.

ARRAIOLOS 
The most representative Portuguese work is in the Arraiolos tapestries, which have been hand embroidered since the 15th century. The pieces are made on a loom, using a unique technique that enables paintings to be accurately reproduced. Visit the village itself to make your purchase.
