The Portuguese Grand Prix at Portimão
Formula 1 is returning to Portugal. In 2027, the roar of Formula 1 engines will once again echo across the Algarve as the Portuguese Grand Prix returns to the Algarve International Circuit in Portimão.
The Portuguese Grand Prix has been confirmed for both 2027 and 2028, bringing Formula 1 back to one of Europe's most spectacular racing destinations. The provisional date for the 2027 Portuguese Grand Prix is Sunday 20 June 2027, with the race weekend expected to take place from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 June 2027

Formula 1 in the Algarve
The Algarve International Circuit, often known simply as Portimão, is dramatically different from many Formula 1 circuits. Set among the rolling hills north of Portimão, the track is famous for its elevation changes, sweeping corners and almost rollercoaster-like character. Formula 1 last raced here in 2020 and 2021, when Portugal stepped into the championship calendar during an unusual period for international sport.
In 2027, it returns to a very different Algarve. This time, the Portuguese Grand Prix has the opportunity to become something much bigger than a race weekend. Because beyond the circuit lies one of Europe's great travel destinations.

Come for Formula 1. Stay for Portugal.
A Portuguese Grand Prix journey doesn't need to begin and end at the racetrack. Spend three days immersed in Formula 1 and then slow everything down. Head west towards the wild Atlantic coastline. Explore tiny fishing villages. Walk the cliffs above hidden beaches. Take a private boat through the Algarve's sea caves and rock formations. Travel inland and discover another Algarve entirely: small farms, traditional restaurants, olive groves and villages where life continues at its own rhythm.
Or turn the Grand Prix into the centrepiece of a longer journey through Portugal.

Formula 1 + The Algarve
For travellers who want to keep things simple, combine the Grand Prix with a few days exploring the Algarve. Think beautiful coastal hotels, private boat trips, seafood lunches overlooking the Atlantic, local markets, golf, spa time and long afternoons beside the ocean. Race weekend provides the adrenaline and the Algarve provides the recovery.
Formula 1 + Lisbon & Alentejo
For something completely different, begin in Lisbon, continue through the vast landscapes of the Alentejo, and finish with Formula 1 in the Algarve. Explore Lisbon privately with a local guide. Discover neighbourhood restaurants and traditional food. Travel south into cork country, visit small wine and olive producers and stay among vineyards and centuries-old estates. Then continue towards Portimão as the atmosphere begins to build for race weekend. City, countryside and Formula 1 in one journey.

The Portuguese Grand Tour
And if you're travelling all the way to Portugal for Formula 1, why stop there? A longer journey could connect Porto, the Douro Valley, Lisbon, Alentejo and the Algarve, with the Portuguese Grand Prix as the finale.
Begin beside the Douro River in Porto. Travel into wine country. Continue south to Lisbon and then through rural Portugal before arriving in the Algarve. By the time the lights go out in Portimão, Formula 1 becomes one extraordinary chapter in a much bigger Portuguese story.
Where to Stay for the Portuguese Grand Prix
Accommodation will be one of the most important considerations for the 2027 Portuguese Grand Prix.
The Algarve International Circuit sits inland from the coast, approximately 20 minutes north of Portimão, while many of the region's best hotels and resorts are scattered along the coastline. Depending on the style of journey, we may recommend staying around Portimão, Lagos, Alvor or elsewhere in the Western Algarve, combining carefully chosen accommodation with private transportation to and from the circuit.
For a major international event such as Formula 1, we strongly recommend planning well in advance. Hotels, villas and private transport are likely to become increasingly limited as race weekend approaches.

Planning Formula 1 Portugal 2027
Classic Portugal doesn't simply book a hotel and hand you a race ticket. We design the journey around the event. That might mean arriving several days before the Grand Prix to explore Lisbon and Alentejo, spending race weekend in the Algarve and then disappearing to a quiet coastal retreat afterwards. Or it might mean building a two-week journey through Portugal with Formula 1 waiting at the finish line.
We arrange your accommodation, private transportation and experiences throughout Portugal, creating one seamless journey from arrival to departure. And because every Classic Portugal journey is bespoke, there is no fixed Formula 1 itinerary. Your trip is designed around how you want to experience Portugal.
